Franca supports fundraiser to keep local library open

FRANCA CARBONE OF PHILIP JAMES WILSON IS SPONSORING THE MOTOWN PARTY NIGHT FUNDRAISER AT THE PREMIER LOUNGE IN AUDENSHAW AND URGES YOU TO COME ALONG AND PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT.

In 2012, Denton West Library located in Dane Bank, Denton was threatened with closure. Due to government cuts, the local council announced its intention to sell the land the library was situated on. The Dane Bank community got together and refused to accept that such a valued and longstanding establishment would be closed without putting up a fight.

In June 2013 the newly formed charity Denton West End Community Library (DWCEL) purchased the building from Tameside Council. Since then, this registered charity has continued to provide a library and community service to the residents of Dane Bank.

On March 27th 2015, DWECL is hosting a Motown Party Night fundraising event at Premier Lounge in Audenshaw, which is being sponsored by local Estate Agent, Philip James Wilson (PJW).

Franca Carbone, Sales Manager of PJW for Denton and Audenshaw, said:

“As a Dane Bank resident I have used the library facilities for many years myself and feel very strongly about the cause.

“As a young girl I loved to read, I always used the library to do research for school projects and made use of the computer facilities. Now as a mum of a six-year-old daughter whose enthusiasm for books is even bigger than mine, I feel it would be a huge shame for the library service to be taken away from the children and community of Dane Bank.”

For over 50 years the library has helped to teach children the enjoyment of reading and borrowing books, as well as providing access to computers. In addition, it ensures hundreds of adults not only have the ability to learn computer skills, but are also provided with a wonderful place to socialise.

Since 2013, volunteers and trustees have done a fantastic job of ensuring not only that the library service has continued to stay open, but has brought the local community closer together. There is now an even bigger than ever range of services on offer to local residents from kickboxing, playgroups and quiz nights to Irish dancing and craft fairs.

Fundraising Event

Franca said: “I am really delighted to be able to do something to support the library and I urge as many people as possible to pledge their support by coming along to the Motown Party Night on March 27th. The library is dependent on donations and fundraising to stay open as it does not receive funding from the Council. Without donations, the library will close as it costs £1,600 per month to keep it open!

“I think it is going to be a great evening of entertainment starring the Mississippi Soulman, the ex-lead singer of the American Four Tops, with a DJ and food included.”

Tickets can be purchased from DWEC Library, Windsor Road, M34 2HB or from Dane Bank Pets & Gardens, Hulme Road, M34 2WZ.
