The Didsbury Metrolink launches – It’s the icing on the cake, says Rob Kennedy
After 5-years in the planning the new Didsbury Metrolink opened last Thursday and to celebrate, four of our hard-working property team took an hour out of their busy schedules to check out the new service. Tony Rigby, Jorja Hutton, Paul Olverson and Sarah Shaw took a walk from the Philip James Kennedy offices on Wilmslow Road down to the new Didsbury Village station on School Lane.
Tony was really impressed: “The brand-new Didsbury Village Metrolink station is brilliant; it’s big and shiny, clean and bright, and the new wide platforms make it really inviting. We found it really easy to buy a ticket and the 12-minute interval times meant we didn’t have to wait long for a tram to take us into town. We were speeding past the Manchester United ground in 15 minutes and before we knew it we were in the City Centre.”
“It was exciting to witness the first day of the Didsbury Metrolink; the sun was out, the sky was blue and there was a real buzz about the place. People who live in Didsbury will love the new Metrolink and I think it will make a real difference to the area. Hopefully it will bring more people into our village too; the shops here are great and we know people from Chorlton will start using our High Street”

Sarah loved the location on School Lane: “It only took us 1-minute to walk from the Philip James Kennedy office to the Metrolink Station, so it’s going to be fantastic for all the other local businesses in the village. But it’s not just the Didsbury Village station that’s convenient; there are three other Didsbury stations that will now transform the lives of people living nearby. Whether you live in East Didsbury, West Didsbury or Burton Road, you are suddenly connected to the rest of the city.”

Director Rob Kennedy said today: “The new Metrolink extension is fantastic news for Didsbury; it plugs us directly into the heart of Greater Manchester’s transport system and cements Didsbury as THE place to live. Historically the only downside to living in Didsbury was the grim traffic you’d encounter when commuting into town, but those days are over. The new Metrolink will change all that; if you want to leave your car at home it will speed you into St. Peter’s Square in under 30-minutes but if you still decide to take the car, we’re expecting the roads to be significantly quieter, especially at rush hour.
Rob Kennedy: “The Metrolink is the icing on the cake for Didsbury”
“Britain is coming out of recession, Manchester is booming and now the Metrolink connects the most sought-after area to the rest of the city. It really is the icing on the cake for us. Over the last few months we’ve seen real interest return to the Didsbury property market. Whether you’re looking for a property for sale or a property for rent, the new Metrolink will make all the difference.
“Major infrastructure projects always kick-start an area’s regeneration but because Didsbury is already well-established we expect this to translate into solid price rises for anyone who lives within a 10-minute walk of any of the five new stations; Didsbury Village, West Didsbury, East Didsbury, Burton Road and Withington.
“If you want to know how the new Metrolink extension will affect your home give me a call today. My team offer free sale valuations and are always happy to have a look around your home and give you free no-strings advice. So whether you’re buying, selling or just want to chat about the Didsbury property market, get in touch.”
